JOHN MEETCH. John Meetch, the son of an Irish magistrate, wasborn in Enniskillen, county of Fermanagh, Ireland,in 1724. He a good education. Fromthence they went to the head-waters of the Susque-hanna, finally passing down that river, locating onthe north side of Peters Mountain, thus being oneof the early pioneers of that locality. In 1756 hisfamily was driven off by the Indians, but returnedwhen the settlers had organized for their own de-fense. In the French and Indian war Mr. Meetchtook up arms in aid of the frontiers, and when thestorm of the Revolution burst upon the country hewas an active participant, being in Capt. John Reedscompany during the Jersey campaign of Meetch died at his residence in 1794, his wifesurviving him only a few years. WILLIAM H. Henry Miller was born in Landisburg,Perry Co., Pa., Feb. 28, 1829, and died in Harris-burg Sept. 12, 1870. His father, Hon. Jesse Miller,was one of the purest and wisest public men who hasever helped to make for Pennsylvania an honest his-tory.
