Beautiful East Gate, Jami Masjid mosque, Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, Gujurat, India


Among the five mosques which are in very good condition in the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, the Jama Masjid (also spelled "Jami Masjid") mosque near the east gate, is considered one of the finest mosques in Western India. It was built by Sultan Begada around 1513 It has a blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture. The mosque has three entrance porches to the courtyard and this is the east entrance porch, which is remarkable for its intricate carving and fine carved stone jalis (Jaalis, , screens) that can be clearly seen in this image.
