A distinctive stage in the twelve stages of Man's life is also linked with the image - in this case, July is linked with the Merchant and Citizen. By the seventh month of the year, the winged hour-glass is half empty. Note the snake entwined caduceus on the top box (above the woolsack), which is a symbol of the Merchant.
