Blue sky portrait red bricks Carnegie Hall and Carnegie Hall Tower office block, corner 7th Avenue West 56th Street, New York
Carnegie Hall, designed in an Italian Renaissance architectural style by William Burnet Tuthill, was built by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1891. It is one of the few buildings in New York built entirely of masonry without a steel frame. It is built of narrow Roman bricks of mellow ochre hue with details of terracotta and brownstone. It is a prestigious world venue for both classical and popular music. The Hall was extensively renovated 1983-2003. In 1987-89 a 60-floor office block , the Carnegie Hall Tower, was built next to the hall on the same block between West 56th and West 57th Streets. New backstage and banquet spaces within the tower connect with the main Carnegie Hall building.
