If we as-sume only two trains on this section, one ascending andone descending, Fig. 3 shows respectively the energyabsorbed, the energy regenerated and the differencebetween the two. But, as already mentioned, the really important fig-ures are those which represent the saving effected byregeneration in the energy produced at the central sta-tion. This saving, of course, depends on the totaltraffic in both directions and on the way the schedule isarranged for a given service. The Giovi line is notparticularly fortunate in this respect, as most of thetraffic is in the up-grade direction
