Sperm extraction for IVF. Scientist using a pipette to extract sperm from a sample for use in in vitro fertilisation (IVF). The sperm will be examined under a microscope to ensure it is healthy and then injected into ova (eggs) to fertilise them. The resultant zygotes will be grown in the lab until they reach an early stage of embryonic development and are implanted into the patient's uterus. This can result in multiple births. IVF allows infertile couples to conceive a child.
