Ormond Stone (1847-1933), American astronomer and mathematician. In 1875 Stone became director of Cincinnati Observatory, Ohio, where he established standard time for the city, the first in America. In 1882 he became the first director of the McCormick Observatory at the University of Virginia. His work focussed on nebulae, southern variables and double stars. Many of his students at McCormick went on to direct their own observatories.
