LORD RANDOLPH CHURCHILL IN SOUTH AFRICA; A SKETCH OF THE COUNTRY FROM MATIPI'S KRAAL: "On Sunday, the 2nd August, we traversed for fourteen miles a magnificent country, hilly, well watered, the bush veldt being more open and park-like than before, dotted with many and various fine trees, covered thickly with sweet grass, good for oxen, with a soil capable of growing every species of agricultural produce. This good country extends from the Lundi to within a few miles of Fort Victoria, a distance of about sixty miles, and is incomparably the best part of Mashonaland which I have yet seen or heard of."
