Display of musical instruments invented by Adolphe Sax (1814-1894) including the saxophone at the museum dedicated to him in Dinant, Belgium

The House of Sax (French: Maison de Monsieur Sax) is a museum in Wallonia that focuses on the legacy of Adolphe Sax (1814-1894). Sax was an instrument builder who was mainly known as the inventor of the saxophone. The museum is located in Dinant in the Belgian province of Namur, the birthplace of Sax. In addition to the museum, other places in Dinant are also dedicated to the inventor. On both sides of the Charles de Gaulle bridge and on the Patrie d'Adolphe Sax a number of colorful saxophones are arranged as works of art. Furthermore, the local tourist brochure of the city bears the name "Sax and the City". However, Sax built more instruments and had a factory focused on production. At its peak, he employed more than two hundred workers. He spent only a few years of his life in Dinant and stayed mainly in Paris. He was the royal supplier of brass wind instruments for the army of King William I, who at that time also ruled over Belgium. The museum introduces the visitor to the saxophone in an interactive way. There are different saxophones to listen to as well as the saxophone sound in different music genres. The museum is accessible free of charge and can be visited daily. In addition to the House of Sax, the Vleeshuis music museum in Antwerp also has a replica of the Adolphe Sax workshop.
