Aftermath of powerful earthquakes which hit northern Japan in October 2004.

Structural engineers survey the road near Tokamachi in Niigata prefecture broken due to the damage caused by 4 powerful earthquakes which happened within 40 minutes of each other, northern Japan. Subsequent aftershocks and tremors have slowed down repairs and relief reaching residents of the villages affected. These were the most powerful earthquakes to hit Japan since 1995.
