Bulletin of the United States Geological Survey--The Santa Clara Valley, Puente Hills and Los Angeles Oil Districts. witt and Pico canyons a minorfold of the same nature branches off to the north, but this in fewplaces amounts to more than a pronounced pucker in the bedsaffected by it. The Pico anticline is traceable at least to WileyCanyon, and perhaps even to the forks of Rice and Gavin of the main fold is a syncline which parallels it for its entirelength. This originates at the west at about the same point as theanticline, in a mass of highly crumpled strata in the divide betweenPico and Salt canyons. After a divergent course of 2 or 3 miles theanticline and syncline lie parallel with each other to the San Fer-nando Valley. At certain points along the syncline, as, for instance,at the head of Pico Canyon, there is some evidence that faultinghas taken place immediately to the south, the strata south of thefault plane being downthrown and the plane itself inclined at anangle of 50° to 70°. The evidence, however, was not followed up, U. S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY ULLETIN NO. 309 PL. I>. OVERTURN IN VAQUEROS FORMATION, WEST SIDE OF PICO CANYON, LOSANGELES COUNTY.
