In hydrothorax and ascites the cflusion is rarelysufficient to call for operative interference. 4. Improvement of general health. This is effected by the ordinary measures, tonics, nutritivediet, and pure air. In the larger portion of the cases, however,there are no general constitutional symptoms requiring medicinaltreatment, but a liberal allowance of food ajssists the relief ofthe local manifestations.
