Eroded sandstone. This sandstone was eroded by glacial movements 12,000 years ago and then shaped further by wind and water erosion. The 'shelves' seen here are due to the layers of soft sedimentary rock (sandstone in this case) being worn away more quickly than the thin layers of harder rock.
