No. 3 Plant No. :i plant is situated on the Kettle River in theBoundary District about twelve miles below the town ofGrand Forks and commenced delivering power in 1902. Thehead is 150 feet. About half a mile above the power housethe river enters a gorge which is a series of rapids and falls,the natural fall of which is 120 feet. This natural head hasbeen increased by building a dam at the head of the gorgeand raising the water by that means about .30 feet. Fromthe dam the water is conveyed by open rock cut 700 fi?et. Pump ( —Power Mouse No. 2 and tunnel 400 feet to the head gates. From the head gatesthe water is conveyed by means of a 7-foot pipe to thewater wheels in the power house at the foot of the gorge. Hydraulic machinery.—The installation consists of threeunits having a capacity of l,:i00 horse power each, horizontalsetting, two :{!)-inch runners on each setting. Speed is con-trolled by Escher-Wyss mechanical governors. - There aretwo exciter wheels of 00 caijacity, 1,100 reviilutinn> perminute.
