Toward the end of the week we ex- perienced the coldest weather thus far this winter, the thermometer going down to below zero on the morning of February 2. Naturally the supply of cut flowers was reduced somewhat and this, in a way, was a blessing, for on that date the American and Wells Fargo Express Companies put an em- bargo on all perishable stock going north out of Milwaukee. They did this in order to protect themselves, consignor and consignee, for most trains cannot be run on schedule time due to snow and the extremely cold weather. It is only temporary, as they promise service directly after condi- tions again become normal. The scarce articles on the market at present are roses and lily of the valley. Carna- tions, with the exception of red. are about equal to the demand, while all kinds of bulbous stock, sweet peas and violets are becoming more plentiful. The supply of lilies is none to
