Car production line at the Volkswagen Transparent Factory, Dresden, Germany. This factory, opened in 2001, was built to make the luxury Phaeton car model. The production line combines automation and manual craftmanship to ensure high standards of construction. Customers and tourists can tour the factory and watch the construction of the cars in clean, quiet areas with wooden floors and natural lighting. This conveyor belt is an early stage where the component car parts (pre-loaded into a large rack, one at centre right) are added to the painted car bodies. The smaller boxes contain the tools that the workers use. Doors, engines, wheels and windows are added later.
