Bamboo whisk and scoop for use with matcha tea

The chasen, or bamboo tea whisk, is used to whip powdered green tea, matcha, and warm water into a strong tea with a smooth, frothy top. These wooden utensils are employed in the Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) to make a thick (koicha) or thin (usucha) mixture. Both the measuring scoop (chashaku) and whisk (chasen) are made from single pieces of bamboo.
