He intro-duced the absolute ownership of land among hispeople. After a firm establishment of his power, Oth-man waged war against his old adversaries, the Mon-gol hordes, and drove them out of Kara-Hissar. It isalleged that he was of such a just and generous char-acter that the subjects of the East Roman emperorfled to his protection ; and it is commonly said thatthis wise and good man ruled after the
