Marine fuel analysis. Industrial researcher carrying out a calibration test on a hydrogen sulphide (H2S) analysis machine (vapour phase processor, VPP). This apparatus is being used to test marine fuel for levels of H2S, a contaminant that is required by law to be reduced to safe levels. If this is not done, both for fossil fuels in general, but marine fuels in particular, then marine fuels stored on ships can give off lethal levels of this toxic gas. The legal limit for H2S in marine fuel since July 2012 has been 2 parts per million (ppm). This device is from UK company Stanhope Seta, based in Chertsey, Surrey. Photographed in 2012.
