Regal thorny oyster shell. The shell of a regal thorny oyster (Spondylus regius), a species of saltwater clam (not a true oyster). Shells of bivalve molluscs such as clams consist of two articulating parts, or valves. The two halves of the shells of species in this genus are joined with a ball-and-socket type of hinge.
