The mucous membrane loses its pliability and sensi-tiveness and may be covered with papillomatous vegetations. In other cases, because of fibroid changes in the lowerrectum, partial or complete stricture is formed; the patientsuffers from constipation, alternating with diarrhea, almostconstant straining, auto-intoxication, and pain reflected up theback, to the bladder, and down the limbs.
