To orient our look at those considerations, we first will separate the potential conflicts in family businesses into the fol- lowing categories: 1. Non-business conflicts that affect the business; 2. Problems arising from dispersed management control; 3. Problems dealing with inac- tive shareholders; 4. Problems dealing with non- family members in the business; 5. Transition problems, , replacing top management. The different categories may overlap. And some of the prob- lems in family businesses really do not arise from personal con- flicts. But focusing on the above categories helps orient the discussion. Problems arising from personal conflicts may be the most diffi- cult to solve.
