Railings around the battlements protect visitors to Blarney Castle in Blarney, County Cork, Ireland while waiting to kiss the famous Blarney Stone. The castle was built in 1446 by Dermot McCarthy and it attracts tourists from all over the world to come to see and kiss the Blarney Stone. To do so is a long-standing tradition said to provide those kiss the stone with unrivaled eloquence. The stone is in a wall below the battlements, and to kiss it requires being suspended outside the wall and extending below the parapet access it. The stone is at the center of the tower above the top window.
