Pink-footed Geese (Anser brachyrhynchus). Martin Mere. October 2014. Part of an 'arrival' from Iceland of 45,000. An apparent, surprisingly successful, family unit of the two parent birds in adult plumage, right. Plus six in juvenile, immature, or first winter plumage, grown goslings of the year, to the left. A family unit of this size may well be able to 'elbow' their way to the best feeding, watering and safer loafing, roosting spots from within the flock.
