This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Sentinel-3 satellite in orbit over forest fires in Greece, artwork. This Earth observation satellite mission has been developed by the European Space Agency for the Copernicus Programme (formerly the European Global Monitoring for Environment and Security programme). The first of three Sentinel-3 satellites was launched on 16 February 2016. Their objective is to measure sea-surface topography, temperature of sea and land surfaces, and to record the colour of sea and land, for environmental and climate monitoring. The Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer includes dedicated channels for measuring fires, which will help assess damage and estimate recovery of burnt areas.
