Columbus, New Mexico - Hundreds of children from the border town of Palomas, Chihuahua cross into New Mexico every morning and board school buses to attend public schools in Columbus and Deming. Thanks to the citizens of Luna County, their education is free. All of the students are citizens. Some are living in Palomas with deported parents; others were born in Deming, which has the closest hospital to Palomas.
