This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Earth's geoid. The geoid is the surface of an ideal global ocean in the absence of tides and currents, shaped only by gravity. This image therefore shows the varying strength of the Earth's gravitational field across its surface. Image produced from data obtained in 2011 by the ESA's (European Space Agency) GOCE (Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer) 'Earth Explorer' mission.
