Emil Witschi (1890-1971), Swiss-American reproductive biologist. After studying and teaching in Switzerland Witschi spent a year travelling in USA, studying and working in various research institutions. In 1927 Witschi took up a permanent position a Iowa University as Professor of Zoology. He is best known for his work on sexual differentiation in embryos. In 1955 he published the textbook 'The Development of Vertebrates'.
