Caption: Ranthambhore, Rajasthan, India - Apr 2003. A monkey inside Ranthambhore National park, nearly 400 sq km's of dry deciduous forest on the outer flanks of the Araveli Mountain Range, and home to the largest wild tiger population in India (30, April 2003 figures). The land was formerly owned by the Maharaja of Jaipur and used as his private hunting ground. Not a big hunter, the park flourished, converted into a National park in 1981. Not just home to tigers, the park hosts dozens of animal and bird species, many endangered.
