Photograph of 7ft 4-2-2 Single Express Steam Locomotive, No. 123, built in 1886 by Neilson and co. for the Edinburgh Exhibition


The steam engine in this 1930s photograph was built by Neilson and Company for the Edinburgh Exhibition in 1886. Originally bought by the Caledonian Railway, the engine was later operated by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway as LMSR 14010. In the 1880s it pulled long-distance express trains, and averaged almost 60 miles per hour.
