A 4th century BC sphinx sculpted with a human face in the 3 km ( mi) Avenue of Sphinxes, part of the processional route connecting the Temple of Luxor with the Temple of Karnak at Luxor, Luxor Governate, Egypt. The avenue was completed during the Late Period rule of the founder of the 30th Dynasty, Pharaoh Nectanebo I, who ruled the Egyptian empire from about 379 BC until his death in 362. A total of around 1,350 stone sphinxes used to line the Avenue, but many were removed and reused during the Roman and medieval periods.
