Soon afterwards hewas ordained a Priest, and at a con-ference held in Albany the same yearhe was ordained an Elder by JohnG. McQuarrie, president of the Eastern. States Mission. For a short time heassisted the Elders in holding streetmeetings and otherwise, and then emi-grated to Utah, arriving in Salt LakeCity in October, 1903. His first homein Utah was in the 16th Ward, fromwhich he filled a mission to the East-ern States in 1908-1910 and presideda part of the time over the New YorkConference. After his return fromthat mission, he was ordained a Sev-enty by Levi Edgar Young and becamea president in the 110th Quorum ofSeventy. While residing in the 16thWard, he acted as assistant superin-tendent of the Ward Sunday school,and after he had moved into the 26thWard in 1912, he acted as assistantSunday school superintendent in thatward and later was superintendentof the ward Sunday school for eightyears. He was ordained a High Priest by Elder William McLachlan, presi-dent of the Pionee
