'Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte', (1933). Portrait of Marshal Jean-Baptiste-Jules Bernadotte, Prince of Ponte Corvo, Charles XIV of Sweden (1763-1844). Born Jean Bernadotte, he served a long career in the French Army and was appointed Marshal of France by Napoleon who also made him Prince of Pontecorvo in 1806. In 1818 he became King Charles XIV John of Sweden and Charles III John of Norway. Upon his Swedish adoption, he assumed the name Carl. After a miniature by Jakob Axel Gillberg, after a painting by François Gérard.
