Bemis provided the capability to mass produce a steering wheel remover tool that prevents damage to the steering wheel column during removal. The tool was originally designed by Staff Sgt. Kyle Owens, a motor transportation chief with Combat Logistics Battalion 5, 1st MLG. In 2012, after cracking multiple steering wheel columns using a slide hammer kit, he came up with the idea to drill three holes into a standard washer and weld a nut so that he could effectively remove a steering wheel from the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacements (MTVR) and Logistics Vehicle System Replacements (LVSR).
