A Bell UH1 helicopter, better known as a "Huey", on display at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park near Angel Fire, New Mexico. The building at the memorial was built by Victor "Doc" Westphall in remembrance of his son David, who was killed in the war. He commissioned architectTed Luna, to design a chapel. It was completed in 1968 and was the first such memorial to be built as a memorial to the casualties of the war in Vietnam. The Huey entered service with the military in Vietnam in 1963 and more than 5000 entered service in SE Asia. It was highly versatile, being used for MedEvac, command and control, air assault, transport for men and materials and a gun ship.
