Vase with Bird and Flower Design, 1800s-1900s. This vase with broad shoulders and tall neck represents a typical style of blue-and-white porcelain of the 1800s. Unlike earlier examples decorated mainly with literati themes that evoke ethical values—plum blossoms, bamboos, orchids, and chrysanthemums—works of the 1800s feature fully bloomed peonies and a pair of playful birds to express one’s wish for everlasting wealth and happiness.
