Thishas, however, its very clear limitations. The South had a certain task to accomplish,and certain means to accomplish it with. TheNorth had its larger task, and larger we will carefully consider what these respect-ive tasks were, and the manner of their work-ing out, it will appear as a result that theNorth performed its gigantic undertaking notonly in a creditable and businesslike manner,but in a manner which will stand the test ofhistorical comparison.
