View NW of Dunnideer Iron Age vitrified fort, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK, showing lumps of stonework fused by intense heat, & the Medieval castle. Timber framing within the walls caught fire & heated the stone to melting point: deliberate building technique; accident or attack. To the rear L is the cone of Tap o' Noth, another Iron Age hillfort with vitrified stone walls. The tower at Dunnideer was built in 1260 using prehistoric stonework from the fort.
