Planktonic foraminiferan (foram) test from the southern Caribbean (Globigerinoides ruber), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Foraminifera produce (most commonly) a calciferous test (skeleton) which is divided into chambers. Live forams have filopodia that are united in a complex fashion to produce reticulopodia. Magnification: x40 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
