Black a Tor Copse on Dartmoor National Park. High altitude oak woodland on West Okement River. Granite rocks, lichens & mosses.

Black a Tor Copse on Dartmoor, England. A rare example of high altitude oak woodland situated on the West Okement River. A stunning, tranquil place that resonates with myths and legends. The twisted oaks are surrounded by granite rocks and a vast variety of rare mosses and lichens. Situated in a remote part of North Dartmoor in Devon, not far from the lovely Meldon Reservoir near Okehampton. The whole forest is a lush, green colour due to the mosses and lichens that cover everything. Rare birds are attracted to the woodland and the river that flows past it. A truly special place!
