L'Hoest's monkey (Cercopithecus lhoesti). This monkey, which is standing erect, has lost its right hand after being caught in a snare (wire still embedded around wrist). Monkeys are often caught in traps set by poachers for small antelope or monkeys which are sought after in the bush meat trade. L'Hoest's monkey is an Old World monkey that is listed as vulnerable. It is a herbivore and eats fruit, mushrooms, roots and leaves. It is usually found in small groups of a single male and a few females. Photographed in Nyungwe Forest, Rwanda.
