To assist in the extensive missionarylabours undertaken by the Branch, Robert Parks—a convert duringa recent revival at Barkstone, his native village—began hismissionary labours, July, 1835.^ His first days work was tomission Barrowby near Grantham, and Wolsthorpe near Bel Parks became one of the best-known ministers in the oldNottingham District (1836-73). He had a clear voice, an imposingpresence, and was an evangelical and popular preacher and platformspeaker. We see him now at the start of his ministry enduringhardness ; for while in this district he met with a good deal ofpersecution, travelled long journeys, and preached scores of sermonsin the open air.
