Sow the seed in hot-beds or boxes in March, and when large enough to handle transplant to cold frame. In July transplant to open ground in rows or shallow trenches about 3 feet apart, and about 6 inches apart in rows. Cultivate well and earth up carefully to blanch the stems. Labor can be saved in bleaching, by placing boards 10 or 12 inches wide on each side of the IMPROVED WHITE PLUME. Best early Celery, self blanching, stalks and leaves are naturally white, and do not require earthing up like the other varieties; tie the stalks together and draw a little earth about the plant which will be sufficient.
