Caroline Herschel (1750-1848), a German astronomer who lived in England and assisted her brother William Herschel in his astronomical observations. She herself discovered eight new comets between 1786 and 1797 and earned a generous stipend from the King for her work. After her brother's death in 1822, Caroline returned to Hanover in Germany, where she died at the age of 98.
