Meditation Temple of the Dalai Lama, Norbulingka Summer Palace, Lhasa, Tibet.


The Norbulingka, meaning Treasure Park, contains the Summer Palaces of the Dalai Lama who went into exile in 1959. Construction began in the 1740's and it is the biggest man-made garden in Tibet. It contains three palaces, the last of which was constructed in 1954 for the present 14th Dalai Lama who now resides in Dharamsala, India. The Norbulingka, along with the nearby Potala Palace, was made a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2001 by UNESCO.
