About the only special designthat we might point out is the small enddoor, located I6J/2 ins. from the floor andwhich is used for loading the car withrails at the steel mills. We have usedsuch an opening for many years and findit of much advantage. We also rein-forced the ends by heavy inside doublelining, as shown, with very satisfactoryresults and it is a very rare occasion onwhich the end is bulged out. The center sills of these cars consist oftwo 15 ins. X 35 lb. channels reinforcedat top with 5 X 4 X ^ ins. angles and atbottom with 4x4x5^ ins. angles. Thetop angles run the full length of the carand the bottom angles run through thebolster and stop at back of draft gearplates. Bolsters are built up of 5/16 in. webplates. The bottom of bolster is rein- floor stringers of 3 ins. x lb. Z-barsare run the full length of car. End sillsto have a 12 x ^^ ins. cover plate. Diag-onal braces at ends are of 5 x
