Statue of Nicolas de Condorcet (1743-1794), French philosopher, politician, mathematician and voting theorist. Marie Jean Antoine Nicolas de Caritat, Marquis de Condorcet, worked on integrals and probability theory. Elected to the Academy of Sciences, he became president of the French Legislative Assembly in 1792 and implemented educational reform. The Condorcet election method is named for him. This bronze statue by French sculptor Jacques Perrin (1847-1915) was inaugurated in Paris on 14 July 1894, the centenary year of Condorcet's death. Artwork from the 14th volume (second period of 1894) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
