A Saxon miner's axe, circa 1680 Characteristically curved iron blade with a cross-shaped perforation in the centre. Oval socket with a small hammerhead on the back. Walnut helve with richly engraved bone inlay and decorative copper nails. Four cartouches on each side with mining scenes, two of them added during the Historism period. One of them portrays the monarch beneath a crown, and crossed miner's hammers on the opposite side. Pommel cap bears the Saxon coat of arms and another of the monarch.
