LlLIUM Al'HATl'M. Lilies. Some of the varieties of this favorite flower are truly magnificent. They are all hardy, and the bulbs can be planted either in the spring or autumn; Candidum and Longifiorum Juponicum should be planted in the autumn, as they commence then to grow; a cover- ing of manure will be found beneficial for all the varieties, but must he removed very early in spring to prevent too rapid growth. The ground should be thoroughly drained. For pot-culture we recommend the Candidums, Laucii'oliums, Longiflorums and Au- ratum. ALRATUM (Golden Japan Lily). This superb Lily has flowers 10 to 12 inches in diameter, composed of 6 white petals, thickly studded with rich chocolate crimson spots, and a bright golden band through the centre of each petal ; exquisite vanilla- like perfume.
