Pictured Carolanne Eyre assistant registrar Our registrars have moved from Lothian Chambers, following its lease to the French Consulate, to the City Chambers, where a new marriage suite opens this week. The City Chambers Wedding suite is the final phase of refurbishment to accommodate the move of Registration Services to the City Chambers. The aim was to create a wedding venue to suit new couples and an attractive venue in which visitors can get married. The new registry office contains two wedding rooms and a reception area to greet guests with views over Princes Street. Decor is a combination of classic and contemporary design. The rooms feature Scottish contemporary velvet upholstery by Scottish Designer Mairi Helena, Scottish Tweed from Isle of Bute and Oak furniture made by the local Grassmarket Community Project. A new rug up the aisle references James Craig’s new Town Design in 1767. The new Marriage Room is a significant update on previous suites from the 80’s and 90’s - we have old photos that we could dig out showing the swirly carpets and curtains of the old marriage rooms.
